My Year of
In Marrakech
Celebrating Mable Taplin's 50th
“And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land.”
Leviticus 25:10
September 3 to 10, 2027
Marrakech, Morocco
My dear friends and family,
In Scripture, the fiftieth year is a Jubilee: a season of rest, release, and new beginnings. As I step into mine, I can think of no better way to mark it than in Marrakech, surrounded by the people I love.
I have planned a week of beauty and ease: candlelit evenings, a party under the desert stars, a sunrise balloon flight above the Atlas foothills for those who wish to fly, and plenty of unhurried time to rest by the pool or wander the souks at your own pace.
Thank you for saying yes to this journey with me. Everything you need to secure your place is below, and I am here for any question along the way.
With love and gratitude,
In 2000, Morocco became the first place I set foot on the African continent. I fell in love with its colors, its rhythm, and the warmth of its people, and I carried that love home with me.
While there, I bought my mother, Ernestine Joan Taplin, a caftan. The following year, I would lay her to rest in that caftan. Morocco wrapped her in beauty one last time, and it has held a piece of her story, and mine, from that day forward.
This year I turn fifty, and with that birthday I will live longer than my mother did. I carry that truth with grief and with deep gratitude. Returning to Marrakech is how I choose to honor her, to thank God for every year I have been given, and to begin my next fifty surrounded by the people I love most. This is my Year of Jubilee, and I want you there with me.
One gathering each day at most, with the rest of your time entirely your own.
A private driver meets you at the airport and brings you to our 5-star riad in the medina. From 5:30 to 8:00 pm, drop in to our Moroccan welcome reception: dates and milk on arrival in the Moroccan tradition, a generous grazing spread, and fresh mint tea poured tableside.
Sleep in, then join us for lunch together at noon. At 2:30 pm, a private guide leads us through Villa Oasis, Saint Laurent's private garden, then on to the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and the cobalt-blue paths of Jardin Majorelle.
At 4:30 pm we leave the city behind for the Agafay Desert, where rolling stone hills turn gold and the Atlas Mountains rise on the horizon. Our private tented lounge awaits, dressed in lanterns, Berber rugs, flowers, and candlelight.
Toast the sunset from the terrace, then gather for a feast of grilled meats, vegetable pastilla, couscous, and Moroccan pastries with fine Moroccan wine. Gnaoua musicians set the rhythm, a dancer takes the floor, and our DJ keeps us dancing under the stars until a fire performer lights up the night.
Spend the morning at a custom perfume workshop, blending a fragrance of your own to take home. Then a private transfer, with porters for your luggage, carries us to our garden estate in the palm groves for an afternoon by the pool.
While the city still sleeps, a private car collects us from the estate for the drive north to the Jbilets, the rugged hills beyond Marrakech. In the blue light before dawn, the crew unfurls our balloon across the earth, the burners roar to life, and it swells and glows like a lantern against the fading stars.
This is a private flight, for our group alone. As the ground gently falls away, we take our seats at a table set in the sky, where a catered breakfast is served in the air: Bacha Coffee, fresh orange juice, Moroccan mint tea, and a gourmet spread to share. For about an hour we float in near silence above wild plains, golden hills, and quiet villages, while the sky warms from violet to rose to gold and the distant Atlas Mountains catch the very first light.
Back on the ground, each flyer receives a flight certificate as a keepsake, and we return to the estate by mid-morning with the whole day still ahead.
An evening in an exquisite garden, glowing with candlelight, with show-stopping entertainment from the first toast to the last dance by the pool. This evening is my gift to you.
Wander the souks, book a hammam or spa treatment, or spend a long, lazy day by the water. This is also our backup morning for the balloon if winds require it.
Breakfast together, then private transfers to the airport, timed to your flight.
A storied hideaway of tiled courtyards, fountains, and fragrant gardens, steps from the souks yet a world away from their bustle. Unwind in the hammam and spa, swim in the pool, and dine at the hotel's celebrated restaurants. Breakfast and afternoon tea are served daily, and every room is air-conditioned.
Selected by the Michelin Guide, this estate of private houses and pools sits among palm groves and fragrant gardens. It is home to our balloon morning and my birthday dinner, with breakfast served each morning.
A private room of your own at both homes.
One room with one bed, shared together.
Two friends share one room with two twin-size beds.
